Great post, great pics. And good choice being the photographer with that big mulga, let someone else do the tailing

Yeah, quite true... I was glad to see Jason Luke's borneo trip slideshow at the AHS. That mulga for a long time didn't attempt to bite. It just looked at us in a confused manner, as if to say "I don't think you know who I am..."

Absolutely brilliant pictures and narration. Very good of you to share them. I'm in awe at your ability to get so many pictures of such good quality in a short amount of time and under field conditions. Well done, sir.

Cheers Sdaji. I have a bit of a time limit on photo taking (for most animals). I've got an awful lot of rubbish that gets deleted on the spot and even more that get deleted when they're uploaded. Unless it's a "record shot" I usually get rid of anything that isn't in sharp focus or isn't in a nice pose.

You've seen my work over the years, some of it is good, and I'm sure you have an idea of how many pictures I've had to take to get the good ones I've managed (tens of thousands). Your pictures are better, even just what you get around to showing publicly; you must delete "literally bazillions" of them. I'm more of a hoarder, and have a fair chunk of a terrabyte drive taken up by reject pictures which will sit around unused and one day go to land fill I suppose I really should delete them as I go.
I've been pretty slack with my photography over the last two years or so, your great work and prompt to get a DSRL have inspired me Thank you

Beautiful photos Henry. I envy you getting that Northern Rosella pic.
The pic of the Double Bar has a great out of focus background. All your pics are outstanding.
cheers

Apologies for not seeing this thread ages ago,
but I am moved to comment anyway. (better late than never).
Absolutely brilliant and awesome work Henry!
So many of these photos are the best pics I have ever seen of these species.
What you are doing with your time and effort in the field (and sharing with us) is an inspiration to us all.
Cheers, Ant

Well Henry, it's not like you wouldn't have heard this before, but this pic above would make an AWESOME jigsaw puzzle!
But, not to specifically pick one out of the bunch, I must say, your photographic prowess is nothing short of amazing! I absolutely love reading your posts - putting "name to face" of these critters, places etc is also beneficial! I thank you, kind sir, for sharing these accounts with us!
Best,
Carolyn

thanks guys, I would have responded soon er but I've been away. I've just got back from Perth, we drove my friends car over for his PhD field season.
Rex: Those Northern Rosellas are painfully alert to me trying to creep up on them. I can get within 30meters, but no closer so I rarely get decent photos. I tried pretty hard this trip to get nice photos of the more spectacular animals. I failed on a few species like Mitchells and Mertens water goannas but I like to think I did well. I'm happy with what photos I brought back.
Ant, I'm glad you saw this thread. You're another passionate Kimberley-o-phile like myself. Although it's hard going to find animals up there it's worth it. If my photos might inspire someone to become passionate about conservation of our wild areas it would be an incredible achievement and a wonderful bonus.
Carolyn,
I can't say I've ever heard of my photos being perfect for a jigsaw! Like I said, I worked hard to get good photos, often instead of sleeping. I'm glad I got the results I did. I enjoy seeing photos of raerly seen animals from the pilbara/north queensland/western QLD etc etc so I'm glad to contribute to the threads on this site.
Thanks again,
Henry

Great stuff, Henry. Great finds, great pics, great text. Looks like I was up there about a month too late, and a bit too far south. I saw bugger all up there.
